What building and construction companies need from a website

The building companies we work with cover a lot of ground. Main contractors like Holmes handle commercial and residential builds across several regions. Transportable and relocatable home builders like Leisurecom and Leisurebuilt sell a specific product North Island wide. Lifestyle Builds does custom shed homes in Canterbury, and Tiger Building supplies construction and skilled labour across the Waikato and Auckland. The website job is different for each, so we never use one template for all of them.

The thing most building sites get wrong is hiding the proof. A homeowner choosing a builder is making a big, slow, nervous decision, and a commercial client checking you out wants to see scale and finished work. So we put completed projects front and centre with real photos, location, and a short note on what the job involved. We have found a strong project gallery does more to win enquiries than any amount of copy about quality and craftsmanship.

Transportable and relocatable builders need something extra. Buyers want to understand the range, the floor plans, what is included, and how delivery and siting actually work. We build those sites so someone can browse models, picture the process, and know roughly what they are in for before they pick up the phone. For main contractors, the site does a quieter job: it reassures architects, developers and councils that you are a real, capable outfit worth shortlisting.

Building and construction website FAQs

We get most work through referrals. Is a website still worth it?

Yes, because the referral still looks you up before they call. A homeowner who hears your name will check your site, your past builds and your reviews before trusting you with a large spend. The site confirms you are legitimate and shows the standard of your finished work. It rarely replaces word of mouth, but it backs it up and stops good leads going cold.

How many project photos should we show, and do they need to be professional?

Show your best completed builds rather than every job. We usually recommend a focused gallery of strong, recent projects with a line or two on each. Good phone photos in decent light are fine to start, but for a handful of flagship builds professional shots are worth it. Buyers judge your work by what they see, so quality images carry real weight.

We build transportable homes. How is that website different from a normal builder site?

It leans closer to a product catalogue. Buyers want to browse models and floor plans, see what is included, and understand delivery and siting before they enquire. We build those pages so the range is easy to compare and the process feels clear and low risk. The goal is a confident buyer who already knows roughly what they want when they make contact.
